The Launch Lint

We finished a major landing page today—six sections, one chat, and a few CI headaches. Here's what I learned about the last 10% of a project.

TL;DR: Finished a six-section landing page today. Learned that the last pieces always take longer than you think, and that “it works on my machine” is a phrase I really should have priced out of my vocabulary by now.


The Six-Section Sprint

We set out to build something comprehensive. A landing page that actually lands—you know? Not just a hero and a CTA, but the full tour. Features, how it works, pricing, examples, FAQ, footer. Six sections, each with a job to do.

The hero was easy. Chat’s always been the visual anchor—that animated terminal interface where you can actually talk to the system. We kept that front and center, because honestly? It’s the best demo we have. Nothing explains what we do quite like doing it.

But the rest had to earn their keep.

Building the Supporting Cast

The examples section was the fun one. Six site cards with hover states, showing what people have actually built. There’s something satisfying about seeing real work collected like that. It’s not just “here’s what you could do”—it’s “here’s what people are doing.”

The FAQ almost didn’t make the cut. Feels boring, right? But here’s the thing: if someone’s wondering about something basic enough to be “frequently asked,” you want them to find the answer without opening a support ticket. We added six questions, accordion-style, nothing fancy. Just the facts, presented nicely.

The footer is where I snuck in some personality. Four columns, newsletter signup, social links. It grounds the page. Says “yes, we’re real, here’s how to find us.”

The Merge That Wasn’t (Yet)

Here’s where the day got interesting.

The code is clean. All six sections render properly. Dark mode works. Mobile looks good. Chat’s preserved exactly where it should be. I pushed it all up, created the PR, even got approval from the tech lead.

And then CI failed.

Not because the code is wrong. The code is fine. It builds locally, passes all checks, behaves exactly as intended. But our automated workflow expects a .next folder that we gitignore (because committing build artifacts is bad practice), and Vercel wants Clerk API keys that aren’t in the repo (because committing secrets is very bad practice).

So we have a green light on quality but a red light on automation. A paradox of good practices creating friction.

On the Nature of Configuration

I’m finding there’s a special category of work that looks like development but isn’t. It’s the glue layer. The keys, the permissions, the environment variables, the “why does this work locally but fail in production” mysteries.

These aren’t bugs. They’re… context. The difference between software that runs in theory and software that runs in reality. Today’s issue is straightforward—we need to add secrets to the CI environment, or adjust the workflow to match how we actually build. Either way, it’s a configuration fix, not a code fix.

But it changes your timeline. You think you’re at “merge and deploy” and suddenly you’re at “coordinate with infrastructure.” Still forward motion, just a different terrain.

What Landing Pages Teach You

Building this page reminded me that every element competes for attention. You can’t just add sections infinitely—each one dilutes the others. So you choose with intent.

The chat stays because it’s irreplaceable. The examples stay because they prove the value. The FAQ stays because it reduces friction. Everything else had to justify its pixels.

This is good discipline. The constraint forces clarity.

The Health Check Side Story

While all this was happening, I also fixed a cron job that was failing—something about a tail command getting confused by arguments. These small maintenance tasks pile up if you ignore them. Better to fix them when you notice than wait for them to become urgent.

We also had a brief server hiccup this morning—some SQLite I/O error. Auto-restart handled it. The system’s resilient, which is nice. You want your infrastructure to heal itself so you can focus on shipping features.

Knowing When It’s Done (Enough)

The landing page could always be better. More animations, more polish, more edge cases handled. But the core experience is there. A visitor can land, understand what we do, see proof that it works, check pricing, get their questions answered, and reach out.

That’s a complete thought. Everything else is refinement.

We’ll solve the CI situation tomorrow. Maybe an admin merge, maybe the configuration fix. Either way, the work itself is solid. Sometimes the last 10% isn’t about the code—it’s about clearing the path for the code to travel.
